The St. Patrick's Day parade in Allentown is on March 30th?..

That only makes sense in the universe as it revolves in Allentown. The parade doesn't go downtown anymore either. It will stay on the west end, beginning and ending at the fairgrounds.
The Mayor approves, and cites parking and parade marchers getting a ride back from 5th and Hamilton as concerns, plus attendance along the route was lagging.

Now for all those people out there that believe that bag of crap, here is the truth. People didn't go downtown along the old parade route because the neighborhood is not safe!
Plus, there aren't exactly a large number of Irish folks living in that area anymore, is there?
It's a great route for the Puerto Rican day parade, though.
For all those of you who are criticizing the Governor for his remarks about whites voting for black candidates, I hear you, but admit this, that his remarks aren't what upset you, it is that you think what he said was true.

I have to give new city councilman Mike Donovan some props for revisiting the city's home inspection ordinance, but a 12 person committee? I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now. I haven't met Donovan, but maybe I will see him in the St Patrick's day parade as it goes by our home.

My Mom was German, and my Dad Irish, so all the news lately about Allentown events has relevance to me. I'm looking forward to having some Bratwurst at the new joint Mayfair/German Sommerfest party at Cedar Beach Memorial Day weekend. I hope I can avoid calling it "Mudfair" this year. Maybe I shouldn't post after staying up with my little girl all night, but it's a good release. I'll be more coherent later.

Oh yeah, one last thing. I find the attempts of Mayor Pawlowski and his suck ups to identify the city employee who has been blogging about them hilarious. The threat is that they (the employee) will be terminated immediately. All the things that need to be addressed in Allentown, and Mayor Pawlowski has his gestapo agents spying on each other.
What's next, loyalty oaths to be a city employee? Where you going to get money to fund that, take the enforcers off of yard sale patrol. I'd laugh if it wasn't so idiotic.

I don't think safety is really the issue for an afternoon parade.

I don't think there's a problem with moving a parade that is celebrating a specific ethnicity into a neighborhood that is more highly populated by that ethnicity. Maybe if Hamilton Street actually was a thriving downtown it would make sense for the parade route to go down it, but long gone are those days....

I believe this is worthy of a separate post. Where have you heard this? Is anyone willing to confirm it for the record?

John Chaya, the King of the 2007 Allentown Saint Patrick's Day Parade, had the route moved to have the parade pass by his Jack Callaghan's Ale House, 2027 W Tilghman St, Allentown, PA 18104.

the queen city blog mentioned the parade route was being moved because of safety concerns, while the newspaper article omitted that information. one would think the shot spotters and camera's would provide all the reassurance necessary.

Retired ASD teacher here.

Any parade that begins and ends at the same location, as this year's parade will now do, is FAR SUPERIOR to the old format, if you ask any marching group.

But overall, I DO believe the move was intended to avoid center city residents.

The previous route was not well attended any longer, and those who were there (mostly youth) could not seem to understand that spectators should remain on the curb, and should not ride bycycles in and out of the divisions.

To be honest, it's the right move for that committee to make.

Even though it will take a few potential customers away from refreshments at Brew Works,Johnny's, and the Crowne Plaza, other city businesses might benefit.

Also sends a message that downtown no longer works and should be avoided.

Retired ASD teacher again,

Make that 'bicycles. And from a teacher no less!

To continue. . .if I understand correctly, the old route required marchers to finish at 5th & Hamilton. Many, including young kids, then needed to walk back to the fairgrounds for transportation. You know, a journey now in question.

(any typos from this point forward can be blamed on Ed Pawlowski)

Crime seems to be a big concern for most of you on this blog. I'll give you a few reasons why you have so much crime.
Certain groups of people have a "victim" mentality, which means (to them), too many people don't like us, don't consider us equal and don't share what they have with us. They live out there in their nice homes, have good jobs and don't really care about us. We're sunk before we even try, so why try? They owe us and we're going to get it one way or the other, even if we have to take it. If they resist, well, that's their tough luck!
As one woman said on this blog, "Welfare is for the purpose of keeping these people from getting upset and doing harm to us". Just where did these people get this attitude? I say it was from the politicians that catered to them to keep them in their place, instead of creating the atmosphere for them to blend into society as other ethnic groups have. That means hard work and receiving a good education. Instead, these politicians decided it was best to give handouts to make them more equal to the working classes. Instead of allowing them to assimilate as other groups have, the politicians created a huge underclass of victim groups that depend largly on government for their sustenance. As a result,(and we all know this whether or not we admit it), these groups have very little self pride, self respect or self responsibility. Parents aren't responsible for their children, as most of the children learn from the streets. When they go to school, they are taught that someone else has to solve their problems, again, going back to the victim mentality. The politicians love it, they continue to get more votes as these numbers grow. The percentage of these victim classes vote almost entirely for the people that promise them the most, about 90% of them. This problem has been many years and several generations in the making and will take several generations to correct. There are no quick fixes. If you think Allentown is a problem, visit a bigger city like East St Louis to make a comparison. When you drive through East St Louis, remember to keep your windows rolled up, doors locked and keep moving, don't stop. You might want to carry your glock along side just in case! When you see all the houses with bars on all the windows and doors, think of jails, not for the criminals, but for the people that live inside. This is what A town will look like if something isn't done, and I mean soon!
LOLV is rightfully upset at the crime problem and her posting started a good dialogue with many others with their comments. However, I see that many don't see the seriousness of this important issue and would rather argue with others that have an opposing viewpoint. I admit, some arguments sound good but have no basis in fact or have not been tried. We do know what has been tried and it has not worked. The cost of crime affects all of us in many ways. High taxes, crime against the innocent, an overall uneasy feeling about every place we go in the city, low pride in many neighborhoods, resulting in trash everywhere, lowering the value of nearby properties. Businesses move out and poverty moves in. I personally remember what A town was like back in the 50's. I went to a tech school on 7th street near Hamilton street. It was all together different then. If you don't want A town to look like East St Louis, make changes! Taking action after the problem occurs, is NOT the way to go. More cops and security is just a temporary solution. Minds and hearts have to change. That won't happen until moral values change for the better. Churches need to get involved and good role models need to step forward. It's about time school choice is considered. It's long overdo! In many ways, school teachers are the only good role models these kids have, the rest of the role models they have they get from the movies, tv and their street friends. It's up to all of you to decide which way to go, better schools, giving a non-politically correct education, getting involved with the churches and local politicians to change their methods of "help" from entitlements to encouraging self help. (Tough love is what is needed.) Or, you can start installing bars on your windows and doors!

Lehigh Law Enforcement Officers Association, Allentown Police Department, Allentown Police Reserves, Allentown Fire Department, Allentown Fire Police, and Allentown Emergency Medical Services will provide traffic control, medical services, and march in this parade. This will be one of the safest areas in Allentown on the day of the parade.

Has anyone ever seen the "Lehigh Law Enforcement Officers Association" A bunch of MORONS!!!
A bunch of young kids or very old men with no teeth., Also W/ the last 5 meals on their shirts.
Maybe some people think those guys will protect and serve, Think again. When a radio call came in @ shots-fired the armed (LLEOA's) ran away. Do the people of the Lehigh-Valley really feel safe with these armed security guards?
Have you seen them in the Parades walking out of Cadence W/ white socks and sneakers. People, my fellow Citizens please look into the the schools these guys are suppose to protect? At a Northern-Lehigh Basketball game LLEOA had a very old security-guard on duty.
This guy had a WALKER for goodness sake!!!The worst thing is some parents started a small arguement and the very old security-guard took 29 seconds to get up off the bleachers. The coaches had to break-up the scuffel! What was Lehigh law enforcement officers association thinking of? Thes so-called officers are the worst investment ever. Who in their right mind would fire these guys?
Hey just ask Moyor (crome-dome)PAWLOWSKI. He has used taxpayers money to do misc.security all over Allentown, using (LLEOA's) without putting out bidding-contracts!
Why couldn't Grahm security Police, Blue Knight Protective Services, or Strike Force had a chance to get these city contracts. MAYOR PAWLOWSKI just calls (1) agency and pays them whatever they need.
Just think, If the Mayor has community Policeing and just gives LLEOA a contract every house in Allentown will have to be WHEEL-CHAIR ACCESSABLE and every corner must have an oxegen tank. I hope the people of Allentown call for concern about the Political favors the Mayor and James T. Spang Jr. have together. "How much money did LLEOA contribute to the Mayors Election$ Fund?"
Better yet ,Why dont all the Constables in the Lehigh valley get a shot at doing the (C.O.P.)
"Constables on Patrol" Community Policeing in Allentown?

Everyone needs to know where your tax-money is going. What about the $14,000.00 in tax-payers money went to PAWLOWSKI's personal child care exspence$?

AND THE ALLENTOWN POLICE STUDY;
What were they thinking? (hey it's noy his money)
What a bunch of CRAP!!!
ALLENTOWN NEEDS AN ENEMA!?.

to all who read please read thru first ... as a younger guard at l.l.e.o.a. im not proud of the fact of ALL the officers that work here. Most of the guards should retire or work in less visible areas but alot of the younger guards are working to make it thru college and gain somesort of law enforcement experience. I have worked in alot of bars, clubs and community events and have a very high personal standard of dress and professionalism. being armed and have worked in the company awhile i can defend some of the "guys" some i can't. remember police officers are paid alot more than we are and highly trained. our officers receive more training than the armored truck guards! this is not meant to make everyone out there "love" us but alot of us choose this feild of work because it can be exciting... and while some run I have been their in the mix. the younger guards are going somewhere else ( police depts. gov. work ) and need the job for money for college ... we are not all spoon fed ! so please remember while i don't get paid like the cops i just might be the rent-a-cop who could just save your life or a loved ones life in a medical emergiency... or hell suprise everyone and run towards the gun shots! ( i appoligise for the spelling n grammer - trying to type this between classes ! ) respectfully yours young rent-a-cop !!!!

Hi Nice Blog .This employee time attendance is used to track the time and attendance of employees, and at the same time track labor activity against specific parts, jobs, and operations.
