Cancer

This past year I've lost three people to cancer, two were family friends, the other was my father. My father survived 25 years of Parkinson's, in large part because of his positive attitude, and several years of heart problems. Heart disease is a family health issue. It was the cancer that ended his life at the age of 69. Because of his other problems he was too weak to take radiation treatment. We learned of the leukemia and prostrate cancer six months before he passed away.
Our family friends, these are similar because both men lived only two years after being diagnosed. The first had colon cancer, took all the chemo treatments and had all the surgery. When I took him to the hospital on New Year's eve he looked like he was seventy something, but he was only 55. He was too weak for treatment and was sent to a hospice where he survived for a two weeks.
Our other friend was diagnosed with throat cancer but refused the surgery and chemo treatments. He went to Mexico for alternative treatments because it is illegal to treat cancer in this country any other way but with chemo and radiation. Did you know that? I know a local herbalist who says there are good herbal treatments, and even cures, but he can go to prison for administering them. Back to that in a moment. Our friend came home, and I hear he looked good and was feeling better, but was starting to have problems again. He went to the doctor, was admitted to the hospital and finally agreed to chemotherapy. Within days he was gone at age 54.

What I'm getting at here is the resistance in this country to allow alternative treatment usage. Statistics say everyone knows someone with cancer. Cancer is a relatively new epidemic. Seems the foods we eat, the water we drink and the medications we take can be doing us damage rather than giving health. Processed foods and tap water are loaded with chemicals, perscription drugs are loaded with side effects.
Herbalists all over the world have been using natural treatments to combat cancer for years, and it's a shame we are locked into the most radical and debilitating cancer treatment imaginable. We talk big oil, but what about big medical? Why can't natural cures be applied in this country without the facilitator going to jail? This is a question we must ask ourselves and our legislators.

Finally, here is what I know about natural cures.
Essiac tea is an herbal mix that was quite successful in Canada until the drug companies got it banned. Look it up for yourself. It's very helpful as a companion to chemo and a good preventative. They say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so it never hurts to be proactive with your own health.
Venus flytrap is a Chineese herb know to cure cancer in some parts too.
White tea is a good preventative, and so is apple cider vinegar. Most effective is the foods we eat, or choose not to eat.
Don't mean to sound preachy, but this issue has hit so close to home and it's worth sharing.

I love white tea, and I won't buy sandwich meats except from family markets. The processed stuff has god knows what preservatives in it.
I read the other day that people who practice the meditation of Tai Chi live longer, more active lives, and the Yahoo article gave sound reasoning. I'm sorry about your Father, My Mom was in ill health for decades, but never stopped smoking, and she died at 58.

my condolences on your losses. I am consistently amazed that the government would force people to poison themselves as a cure, at an enormous financial cost, rather than allow them to pursue natural or alternative remedies.

I try to be very conscientious about what I eat and where it comes from, for health, ethical, and environmental reasons. If we switched back to a "whole foods" approach to eating I believe our entire planet, and all those who live here, would be better for it.

Pond, Lolv, thanks for your nice comments. I too am amazed that the government would rather force harmful medication than allow alternative meds to have their place. The reason it is like this is because natural herbs can't be patented. Unfortunately it's about money, and most doctors don't even know any different.

These health rules, teas, natural foods, avoiding pharmacy drugs, meditation, etc. are things many people overlook. We think our bodies will last forever no matter what we do, or there will be some magic cure. I'd like to see our generation (those of us who are here now), start to make these changes in our lives to overcome these cancers.

Cancer is not a new phenomenon. According to Wikipedia (admittedly not the most accurate of sources), "Hippocrates described several kinds of cancers." (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cancer#History.)

It does seem that the incidence of cancer is increasing. It may be due to changing diet, environmental, or genetic factors, or it may simply be due to our longer lifespans. (In other words, cancer would have killed just as many people 100 years ago, but they died from other causes first.)

That said, we can do many things to limit our personal risk, and we should continue researching treatments of all varieties to find the things that work.

AE, I said cancer is a new epidemic, not a new phenomenon.
I believe it has everything to do with the excessive chemicals and preservatives we come in contact with every day.
