The grass roots revolt continues.
A spokesperson for the Marathon County, Wisconsin, Republican Party was booted by the rank and file after criticizing Rush Limbaugh and other "purists" in the GOP.
A sign of things to come? Perhaps.
I will deal with this "purist" argument in a future blog entitled "Purists vs. Hypocrites" and the phony "social moderate" argument.
Also, I will have comments about the local effort by Country Club Republicans who, incomprehensibly (though in fact, not surprisingly) met at a country club to determine the future course of the GOP.
But there is no doubt that those who claim to be "pragmatic" are on the way out the door. As they should be. These "move to the left", "bipartisan", "compromise", Republicans have literally destroyed the GOP.
Principled Republicans have not. It was Principled Republicans who BUILT a majority at the federal and many state levels. Then the "wizards of smart", as Rush calls them, took over. And what have we to show for it? The GOP is in a major strategic withdrawal all across the country.
It is time the Principled Republicans call the shots again.
For those who might be interested, this very debate will be the feature of the next "Business Matters" show this Monday.
From the "Business Matters" staff:
Monday’s at 8:00pm on WFMZ.
6/15 – Who will determine the future of the Republican party?
Julian Stolz, Activist
Wayne Woodman, Activist
Joe Hilliard, FreedomWorks
Charles Snelling, Activist
PRODUCER’S NOTE: We always do our best to run shows that are timely and relevant to our viewers, and it is clear to me that we are discussing an issue that remains an important one, particularly as the local Republican party (including two of our guests) meets to try and determine a set of core principles to discuss. This show was also interesting for me in its tone – too often, political shows and debates break down into screaming matches. This one, however, did not. That being said, the divisions and disagreements were clear. It was especially interesting to watch this show and realize that this was just a microcosm of the debate that is playing out at a national level.

I attended the Country Club Meeting. Of the 35 attendees, I am pretty sure that no more than 5 were members of either the host club or other clubs in the area. Also, there was a very strong contingent of Pat Toomey supporters including one of his most public supporters William Platt, Chairman of the Lehigh County Republican Committee.
It is sad to me that words like bipartisan and compromise are said with apparent disdain. If Republicans cannot learn to compromise and work in a bipartisan fashion, then I'm afraid we will have to bid them a fond farewell. When the likes of Rush Limbaugh are the leading voices of a political party, it is time for that party to commit suicide. Sorry...but hate and fear cannot and will not govern a nation.
Monkey, what is bipartisan about the Harry Reid and "Speaker" Nancy Pelosi? All the hate is coming from the left. When almost everyone in the democrat party supports killing the unborn and call it "choice", I call that the ultimate hate. It is also "love of self" only. We should NEVER compromise with the immoral libs.
Anon 7:59, there are lots of "Democrats" who would never consider an abortion. And I'm sure there are lots of Republicans who have had or support the right to have an abortion. I don't think abortion should be the be all, end all of the Republican party. Sure, it's important, but there are so many other issues that affect far more people every day. Among other things, the Republican's laser beam focus on abortion as the primary societal issue has resulted in only one out of five Americans calling themselves "Americans."
Abortion is the REAL reason America is so divided. Name me 6 Democrats against abortion and 6 Republicans for abortion. That is something no rational human being should compromise in favor of. I'm willing to bet that you are a product of the government liberal public schools system and have been taught to be a liberal!
I would just say that if Republicans talked LESS about abortions and god and MORE about decreasing spending and taxes, then I might be inclined to vote for more Republicans.
Abortion...well, it's just not something that should be legislated. Because we'll never agree. And that's OK. I could agree to no late term abortion unless it's to save the life of the mother. But otherwise, I want my daughter to have that option should she so choose in her adulthood. I understand that you disagree, and I respect that.
I think a laser beam focus on issues like abortion and gays and guns is ruining the Republican party, however. Talk to me about my money and I'm listening. Otherwise, leave it for church.
The lives of our unborn babies should be more important than our money!
"Abortion...well, it's just not something that should be legislated."
Abortion WAS legislated...from the bench! That's unconstitutional. The liberal politicians made the abortion issue into a political issue. It isn't, it's a human rights issue. Abortion is a matter of convienience for the libs, not a matter of life or the rights of a potential human being. It's about what is more important, the selfishness of the mother, (and father), or the "God given rights" of the unborn. I guess when there is no God, there is no wrong and therefore no Hell. I firmly believe we are more than just animals!
This issue is limited government principles.
How do you "compromise" on Big Government?
How do you "Compromise" on lower taxes vs. higher taxes?
How do you "compromise" on more government vs. less government?
How do you "compromise" on more public debt vs. less public debt?
This is the real battle in the GOP. Between Big Government Republicans vs. limited government Republicans.
More on this in the future...
