WANTED: GOP CAP & TAX 8

The real problem with these eight is that they allowed Democrats in tough districts to vote against Cap & Trade. If these so-called Republicans had voted against the bill, it would have been defeated. Unless, Pelosi and her armtwisters convinced more Democrats to vote for the bill - which would have put their seats in jeopardy in 2010.

Which is more pragmatic? Standing on principle and putting more Dems in trouble in the next election cycle? Or appeasing liberals? And if they are in tough districts themselves, then they, and the GOP, should be educating the voters that global warming stopped in 1998 and that man-made carbon emissions have virtually little to no impact on global warming. Which has been proven by SCIENCE, not CONSENSUS.

That is where the GOP constantly fails - to educate the public and shifting public opinion.

This is why the "save the party" big tent Republicans have destroyed the party, by vilifying those who wish our party to stick to principles, versus the so-called big tent politicians, by labeling the principled as extremists.

Our leaders are either principled or they are not. Shame on those who berate the principled in the guise of big tent politics, which brought us the likes of so-called moderates who consistently switch sides and sell out.

I'm OK with a moderate, even a liberal, that has an articulated consistent position, such as Dent, a moderate, but I am not OK with those who flail in the wind like Spector, dare I say McCain, which the R Party endorsed repeatedly even before any Primary ended.

Until the party can articulate a reason to vote for each candidate, and put the best candidate forward, or refuse primary endorsement (dare I say, Day, Agrall, and Creighton, i.e. not qualifed) , mere party registration is not enough.

Til then I will step aside. The Party can not count on me. I'll take my money and effort home.

The Party has it work cut out for itself. They must prove every step. Let others, dare I say Snelling, et. al, work for the election of folks like these. They do not help the Party!

This vote was proof that the theory of politics over principle hurts the Party, rather than works for it. On the real votes, we can not count on unprincipled candidates. This issue was not social-conservative versus fiscal conservative. These sold out on Republicanism.

Glad I resigned my committeeship, there is no Party if there is no principle in limited and accountable government. I will not work to elect folks like this! I will vote for principled candidates, sometimes even those I disagree with.

By stepping aside, I did not loose. These R's are turncoats selecting politics over principle, this vote was poof in the pudding. I will not vote for the unprincipled of any party. I'm more happy voting for a principled candidate that I do not agree with, over one who puts a finger in the air to see which way the wind nay be blowing. The devil you know is better than the one that you do not.

Til the R's figure that out, the Dems will rule. I can live with that! Bring back principle over rhetoric.

NVLOGIC,

Sorry, you need to participate to fix the party.

Politics is essential to help the GOP to succeed. The problem is that too many think that ONLY politics is necessary.

We need to adopt a STRATEGY - not just election cycle thinking - to apply politics in a smart manner to ADVANCE our principles in a politically smart way.

It is quite simple when you think about it and it eliminates a lot of confusion. Because the issue isn't 'what position should we adopt' but it becomes 'our position is x, how do we convince the public in a politically smart manner to agree with us'.

When we do that, we tend to succeed.

I hope you will become involved with the party to fix things. Because those who have been calling the shots have been destroying the GOP in the name of pragmatism. We need new leadership.

I agree with you, but I've been there done that. Anything changed since the County GOP reorg'd not less than 3 times already?

Its a matter of having a real strategy for the future, or just the next election cycle. Alas, politicians, as this vote proves, think first of their seats. And the party endorses them blindly each election cycle. Proof mainly that politics is mostly bull. There is only so much head banging one can take.

Logic, I sure know how you feel! Seems the harder we try to fix the party, the worse they get. I think we need to fix the society at large. Too many people have been indoctrinated by the left to believe that Socialism is the way to go. They all want, but don't want to work to get it. The Dems have been playing into that mindset for years and sadly, it works.
